2018 Audi Q5 To Launch In India – Good Enough To Regain Lost Glory?

INTRODUCTION:

In recent times, the Audi Q5 flare above has been taking its toll due to sustained competition in its market. Once the market leader in its segment, Audi is about to launch the new 2018 Audi Q5 on January 18. Let’s take a look at what the German auto giants have to offer Indian customers. Since its launch in 2011, Audi Q5 has been an instant hit in the Indian market, becoming one of the most loved Premium SUVs in this part of the world. Lately, the numbers have not done its story justice and thus prompted Audi to introduce a new 2018 Audi Q5.

DESIGN:

Exteriors:

The design changes aren’t all evolutionary, but they do enhance the appeal that the old Q5 had. In fact, the new front end of the 2018 Audi Q5 looks a lot like the Q7. The LED daytime running lights along with the headlight add to the sharpness of the design. The taillights have also been redesigned and add elegance to the SUV. The new 2018 Audi Q5 is slightly taller, longer and wider than its previous version.

Interiors:

Let’s talk now about the interiors. A two-color board has been used, which is similar to the Q7 and looks easy on the eyes. The materials used are excellent, with flexible leathers and shiny wood. The infotainment screen is at the top and below is the climate control system. The Audi appears roomy when it comes to head and legroom. It also has a panoramic sunroof that is expected today in the premium SUV segment.

ENGINE SPECIFICATIONS:

Unsurprisingly, the 2018 Audi Q5 will be launched in diesel variant only. The engine is powered by a 2.0-liter turbocharged TDI engine, which is the same as the previous version, but is around 8-10% more powerful and produces 190 hp and 400 Nm of torque. There are different modes to choose from to enhance the driver experience, namely Comfort, Dynamic, Off-road, Individual and Automatic mode. Choosing a certain mode adjusts throttle, suspension and steering response according to requirements.

Fuel efficiency is a major improvement over its previous version. Automakers claim to have increased fuel efficiency by 20% and now offer around 17kmpl on average, which is excellent. The main reason why the mileage increases by 20% is that the new SUV is 65-70 kg lighter than its previous variant.

SAFETY FEATURES:

When it comes to safety, who better to talk to than Audi? In fact, the SUV comes with a 5-star Crash certification from Euro NCAP, so it has a competitive advantage over its rivals. Other safety features include ABS, Hill Descent Assist, Tire Pressure Monitoring System, and up to 8 airbags.

FINAL VERDICT:

When it comes to SUV sales, Audi is the eternal maid of honor among German luxury car brands. Factors to consider when giving the SUV a try are: excellent fuel economy, excellent fit and finish, luxury cabin design, and spacious cabin. The new Audi Q5 has the technology content and driver-assistance amenities you need to go head-to-head with competitive rivals in the segment. With the 2018 Audi Q5, the German car giants will be looking to set the pace in a rapidly growing segment.
