I recommend CATCH AND RELEASE and here are some tips to use. Although originally widely used as the domain of fly fishermen, now most fishermen practice “catch and release”. Fish populations around the world are under pressure, some types more than others, so unless you catch them for the pot, release the fish. Sadly, most of us have no idea whether the fish is male or female, so carrying eggs or not, therefore safely returning the fish to its habitat is the right thing to do.

Triple Hooks are a No-No!

Use circle hooks. These hooks are designed so that the tip moves away from the stem to form a circular shape. The Circle Hook has been heavily researched and is a must have for all catch and release anglers. Get rid of Tongue on the hook. This makes fishing much more interesting, as you must keep the line taught so that the fish does not spit the hook. Barbed hooks are much safer, easier, and faster to remove, causing less stress for your fish.

Be careful !!

Be aware of the fact that catching a fish is extremely stressful for him. Too much stress can cause the fish to die even hours after release.

  • To combat this problem, use large equipment to land the fish as soon as possible.

  • Get your hands wet before touching a fish.

  • Use a net that does not harm the fish.

  • Use surgical forceps or special pliers plus a tool that can cut through the metal of the hook if necessary.

  • If your pliers / pliers will not release the hook, cut the line where it is attached to the hook. The hook will rust soon and give the fish a better chance to recover.

Another No-No!

Never try to remove a hook through the gills of the fish. In fact, don’t touch the gills at all.

Cardiopulmonary resuscitation

Fish can appear lethargic when released. Hold the fish in the stream or in still water, hold it gently, and rock it back and forth until you feel it is ready to be released.

And now the most important topic!

  • While it is a catch-and-release issue, it is undoubtedly at the forefront of saving our oceans for future generations.

  • You’ve no doubt seen it on the news and other television shows about global ocean pollution. It is in everyone’s interest to be responsible!

  • Leave the area better than you found it. Always carry a container or bag with you to carry your garbage, used line, lures, flies, bait containers and more to dispose of properly.
