10 song titles that could serve as brief weather forecasts

For Midwesterners like me, no part of the local news is as anticipated as the weather forecast, but it also usually ends up being the most unsatisfying segment. Although we are always greeted with smiling faces, meteorologists rarely offer us mild temperatures with clear skies.

Instead of smiling weather experts, the forecast would be more palatable if news stations chose music to represent weather conditions. There are a multitude of songs that represent the different types of weather, like Electric Light Orchestra’s “Mr. Blue Sky” for the beautiful days that are so rare in the Midwest.

Here are ten other popular songs that could be used to represent weather forecasts.

Cloudy by Simon and Garfunkel

Parsley, sage, rosemary and thyme is the album that spawned this laid-back classic, which leaves one with the feeling that Paul Simon wrote it while lying on his back in the middle of a large green field.

Stormy from the classics IV

Its beautiful melody belies the adjective that serves as its title, without a doubt the most recognizable in the pop band’s catalogue.

Sunny by Bobby Hebb

By 1966, this success was ubiquitous, and in the midst of that tumultuous time, his message of gratitude and joy was probably very well received.

Cold as ice by Foreigner

One of the many gems from the self-titled debut album, this monster hit describes a girl, but could work just as well for the January weather forecast.

Martha and the Van Dells Heat Wave

Passion is the cause of the rising temperature in this doo-wop tune, which could also be the name of a mid-August trend in the atmosphere.

Misty by Johnny Mathis

Most likely, this pop standard is used for a morning edition of the local news.

Windy by Association

This punch may be enough for a breezy afternoon, but it can also leave you craving a double cheeseburger and a thick chocolate milkshake.

beatles rain

John Lennon wrote this hit around the time of Stirjust to see it included on the compilation album called Hello Jude.

Snow from the Red Hot Chili Peppers

Alternative rockers scored a hit with this wintry track from Arcadio Stadium.

White Out conditions of new pornographers

AC Newman and Neko Case share vocals on this title track from the indie band’s latest album.
