EVE Online Immersion

Have you ever lost yourself in New Eden, total immersion, forgetting time and everything around you? Focusing on the current moment. Perhaps as a soldier in an epic fleet battle. Weeks of ever-increasing fights and smaller raids, all leading up to this moment. The moment of the truth. The second right before your screen is filled with hundreds of red dots, you jump up, your palms are sweaty, you can barely feel your legs. The second is over. Hell breaks loose.

Fleet commanders give orders as you try to stay alive in this universal sea of madness. Both enemies and friends are dying around you, explosions and missiles cover the screen. You unload another round of Tech 2 projectiles at the named target. Poof, another falls to the ground. Your mailbox flashes with joy, you’ve still killed yourself.

You can see missiles approaching your Tempest. When the missiles hit your shield with full effect, you realize that you are the main target. It’s all about reflexes, as your battle-hardened Minmatar structural hodgepodge of a ship begins to take heavy armor damage, you manage to warp to the nearest safe spot. Another second and you had been a fallen hero. Safe for now. The explosions and death screams can still be heard.

The armor is repaired, it’s time to jump again. Upon reaching the hot spot, you can see a couple of Dreadnoughts trying to kill an enemy carrier. The carrier is obviously giving the last breath of it. Just as it is about to turn into space dust, a thunderous roar can be heard from a distance. As the Carrier explodes right in front of your eyes, a monstrous form draws your attention.

Silence, this is the calm before the storm. The few remaining enemies have left the battlefield, a giant remains, a god of war: an Avatar Titan. Open fire! The orders of the order are clear. frigates, battleships; everyone turns their attention to the monster that just arrived. This doesn’t feel right, you activate all your weapons, all hell breaks loose. The Avatar responds, a Dreadnought quickly meets its creator, the pilot doesn’t even stand a chance. Stay and fight! Your Tempest is now overcharged and deals maximum damage, barely pushing the Avatar’s shield.

*Doomsday device activated*. The space is disappearing under your feet, God has spoken. The fury of the Avatars is unleashed in full power. Around you, the ships of the people are turning into atoms. Corpses are filling in the blanks. Your ship begins to shake, your internal organs are being ripped from your body. You are going down. Darkness fills your retina.

The battle for the homeland has been lost, the entire alliance fleet has been defeated, and your safe abode is no more. The bittersweet aftermath hits your senses as you wake up in a clone bay somewhere far from your old home.

Just for a moment, you were a hero. An unstoppable killing machine, part of something big.
