great gifts for grandparents

If you’re like my family, every holiday season we struggle to buy gifts for the grandparents. Grandparents already have everything. After years of struggling with this problem, here is a short list of some great gift ideas:

1. Give them your gift of time. Make up a card that lets them know you’re going to spend the day with them. Take them to lunch and to the movies, to a baseball game, shopping, etc… Your time is the best gift they can receive.

2. A family photo. A month or two before the holiday season, take everyone to the nearest photographer and take a family portrait. New family photos are always very well received.

3. A family movie. Record major sports and/or school events involving your children. This is especially well received by grandparents who live out of state.

4. Set them up with a computer. You don’t need to teach them how to be a software programmer. Rather, just set them up with a Facebook account and a webcam. Grandparents will love being in touch with their grandchildren in this way.

5. Take them home for the holidays. Many grandparents just can’t make the long trip. Take the initiative and help them. Find a way to drive them, fly them, or bus them home.

The best gift grandparents can receive will always be their family. Come up with a creative way to keep grandparents close to your life, and your gift will always hit a home run.
