If the world were one church

The scene in my mind is full of chaos, disorder, and restlessness as I try to imagine this title in reality. Pleased smiles, condemning sighs and grunts, encouraging cheers, angry looks, disagreeing gestures, shuffling, excited chatter (which could be excited-happy or excited-angry), and probably impatient outings, would grace every Sunday (let’s not assume too). ), would honor every service. These gestures would be necessary for the sermons of various pastors who are trying to convey the Word in the way they understand it best.

Returning to the real world where the world is not one church, various ministries have sprung up in an attempt to populate heaven and save God’s creatures from the destruction of hell. Unfortunately, the diversity in Christianity is itself a source of conflict between the very people whose essence should be love, hence the reason to critically assess the situation.

In Nigeria today, there are countless ‘Men of God’ who claim to have been called to lead the Great Shepherd’s sheep down the path of righteousness and ultimately to heaven, the bliss of the righteous. As a result, the number of churches in the country is staggering, making it increasingly difficult for someone with no ties to any of them to choose which one to attend.

Interestingly, instead of this somehow intensifying unity among believers, it is contributing to condemnation, hatred, and even strife among those of the same faith. Look at it this way. We hear of so many conflicts and even wars between people from different tribes, or children of different mothers, but it is rare to find people from the same tribe at war with themselves. So it seems to be with the ‘Christian tribe’. So this is an attempt to understand and perhaps offer a solution.

First, let me say that I believe these ‘Men of God’ founded their ministry on their personal understanding and convictions of the Word and doctrines of Christianity (perhaps I should add, as made clear to them by the Holy Spirit, and perhaps time shouldn’t). And since we all know that understanding, opinion and preferences differ, some things would carry more weight for some than for others. These convictions and preferences then form a ‘trademark’ by which churches are identified. For example, some churches do not allow the wearing of jewelry for ladies, some do not allow pants to be worn, some dictate the length, style and even color of dresses, others allow ladies to uncover their hair and the list keep going. and in.

In addition to the trademark that these convictions bring, it also raises the need for a separate meeting of those who agree with such convictions to fellowship, hence the establishment of various churches.

I took some time to critically look at some of these churches and discovered that each of them has its dominant messages as a theme in which the essence of the ministry is embedded. Pastor EA Adeboye of the Redeemed Christian Church of God essentially teaches about the Holy Spirit and his ministry. Pastor WF Kumuyi of Deeper Life Bible Church focuses on holiness. Bishop David Oyedepo on the believer’s potential to prosper and discover divine purpose. Pastor Matthew Ashimolowo on how to experience financial freedom. Pastor Olukoya of Mountain of Fire and Miracles on prayer. Pastor Chris Oyakhilome of Christ Embassy on the authority of the believer. Pastor Bimbo Odukoya (May his soul rest in peace), from the Fuente de Vida Church, in singles and married. I could go on and on, but I need you to work with me here.

Keep in mind that each of these areas is critical to the Christian and his growth. Now, I do not want to say here that these Men of God do not teach subjects related to other areas, but these areas are fundamental to their ministries and constitute the majority of their teachings.

If the world were one church, wouldn’t every believer grow to see that they have the opportunity to hear all aspects of their Christian life from experts in the field?

If the world were one church, would all these ministers of God be united and in agreement?

If the world were one church, would believers resort to having a holy war?

If the world were one church, would we have more standing Christians than struggling believers?

Now, if the world were one church, I have no idea what would happen since I haven’t mentioned even a tenth of the pastors that exist in the country.

Maybe you can tell me what you think would happen if the world were one church.
