Nebraska may be overrated

Nebraska is one of the teams that attracts a lot of attention in college football.

Considering Nebraska may not be as good as it was a year ago, the Cornhuskers’ odds of winning a national championship at 15-1 this season may be a bit low. It may be popular, but it may not be profitable to place a college football bet on the Nebraska Cornhuskers.

Although Nebraska will be the favorite in most of their games in 2010, repeating last year’s success won’t be easy. The defense is unlikely to be as good and the offense wasn’t as good last year as it was. The Cornhuskers should have no problems in their first two home games, playing in Western Kentucky and Idaho; however, they are not guaranteed a win in Week 3 at Washington. They should beat San Diego State in early October at home and will almost certainly win at Kansas State. The home game against Texas won’t be easy on October 16 and the road game next week at Oklahoma State will be tough. Even the home game against Missouri in late October is not a sure win.

The Nebraska Cornhuskers could win at Texas A&M and at home against Colorado to finish the season, and they should win at Iowa State and at home against Kansas. The calendar meat is tough, although the early part of the calendar and the latter part of the calendar are advantageous for the Cornhuskers.

Last year, the Huskers crushed Arizona in the Holiday Bowl but lost to Heisman Trophy finalist Ndamukong Suh. Nebraska had the No. 7 defense in the nation a year ago, and it’s not likely to be as good this season. The offense was bad for the most part a year ago and doesn’t look much better. Quarterback Zac Lee just isn’t that great. The team has some skilled competitors like wide receiver Niles Paul, defensive linemen Jared Crick and Pierre Allen and cornerback Prince Amukamara, but there are plenty of questions for Nebraska.

With an offense that is genuinely below average and a defense that lost Suh, the Nebraska Cornhuskers might be overrated this season, though much is expected of Nebraska this season.
