NFL Week 12 Reviews

New England beating Detroit. Detroit stayed close for more than three quarters, until the Patriots and Tom Brady found the Lions’ cornerback, 180-pound turkey Alphonso Smith, and roasted him well for the entire second half. Brady finished with a perfect 158.3 passer rating (which even Will Hunting can’t figure out). Tom Brady is the ultimate man. I bet he went home and cooked a five-course Thanksgiving dinner without breaking a sweat.

New Orleans beats Dallas. The Saints won a game that they controlled for most of the game. They weren’t very efficient in the red zone, and Reggie Bush, who had every reason to be rusty after being out for eight weeks, was. He dropped a sure touchdown pass that cost the Saints a chance to end the game in the third quarter and his fumble on the punt return got the Cowboys back in the game. However, the Saints have a top-five quarterback in Drew Brees. When the Saints got the ball back with three minutes left, it was a foregone conclusion that they would score and they did. Brees is clutch. He has an accurate arm and his 50-yard pass to Robert Meachum was right on the money. The Saints’ defense is stronger this season than last year’s defense, they just aren’t causing turnovers in groups like they were last year. Malcolm Jenkins’ steal job on Cowboys wide receiver Roy Williams was the biggest play of the game. I’ve only seen that happen twice and both times involved the Saints. Last year, Robert Meachum stole the ball from a Washington Redskin player. However, this win was huge for the Saints. They’re on record for the toughest division in the NFC and can’t afford to lose any games.

The Cowboys bounced back after falling 17-0. He was sure they were about to explode again. A month ago that would have happened. With Jason Garrett they held on hard. I’m sure the provisional tag will be removed soon. This loss was a miracle of his entire season. Just when you thought the Cowboys had the game in hand when Roy Williams ran free on that lopsided pass, Malcolm Jenkins picked him. It’s a bit confusing why Williams didn’t look toward the end zone TV to see Jenkins approaching. Garrett was too conservative once the Cowboys got the Saints’ forty-two yard line with two timeouts remaining. He had Jon Kitna throw lateral passes when the middle was available. The Cowboys have receivers like Jason Witten, Dez Bryant and Miles Austin who are fantastic running after the catch. The 59-yard attempt, while close, was a low-percentage move.

New York Jets over Cincinnati. The Bengals, I mean TO, are all talk and they don’t bite. Now the Bengals’ special teams are also terrible. Barefoot Brad Smith saved the Jets from having another exciting finish. Several disappointed fans led by Fireman Ed were seen demanding their money back.

Chicago beating Philadelphia. The Bears played their best game of the year. They were fantastic in all phases of the game. His offensive line controlled the line of scrimmage. They were able to run the ball, they gave Jay Cutler time to pass, which hasn’t always been the case this year, and their special teams kept them in favorable field position for most of the game. And most of all, defending him made Michael Vic look human. The Bears defensive line harassed and pressured Vic throughout the game. His linebackers and defensive backfield gave up yards, but his plan to take the big play away and have Vic work his way down the field worked perfectly. They even forced Vic’s first interception near the end of the game-turning half. That was a fourteen point change. The Bears took the field and scored a touchdown. A big win for the Bears.

Eagle’s offense for the first time this year was controlled. The Bears took away the deep pass and had the Eagles take small chunks to move the ball. Vic took what the defense gave him, but his speedy but lean wide receiver DeSean Jackson seemed frustrated. He doesn’t want to be a part of catching 10- to 12-yard passes and then getting hit. On one of Vic’s third-quarter lopsided passes in the end zone, Jackson kept both eyes on safety and none on the ball. The Eagles also settled for too many field goals. They should expect to see similar game plans for the rest of the season. His defense was set on fire for the first time in a long time. They couldn’t stop the run and gave away too many big plays, complete with poor tackling. They missed Asante Samuel very much, who was injured.

New York Giants over Jacksonville. The Giants had no turnovers and won by helping Eli’s brother, Peyton, in the process. The Jaguars took a nap in the second half and it cost them the game.

Pittsburgh beats Buffalo. The Steelers were saved by their new kicker Shaun Suisham, who kicked four field goals, and the choke on Bills catcher Steve Johnson in overtime. The Bills continue to lose in the cruelest way. Fans blame former kicker Scott Norwood for cursing the franchise.

Houston excluding Tennessee. The Titans found out what life was like without Vince Young, but this game will be remembered for Andre Johnson’s beating of Cortland Finnegan. Finnegan was seen in the locker room crying and calling his mommy.

Minnesota beats Washington. The Vikings showed what they can do when their head coach isn’t Brad Childress. The Redskins are a typical Yo-Yo team. Up one week, down the next.

Atlanta borders Green Bay. The Falcons’ victory showed that they are the best team in the NFC. The Packers are busy trying to talk Paul Horning and Jim Taylor out of retirement because their running game sucks.

Cleveland beats Carolina. Jake Delhomme showed his former teammates that he can still throw game-changing interceptions. The Panthers almost blew their chance at the first pick in the draft by winning.

Kansas City over Seattle. Matt Cassel proved to his former college coach, Pete Carroll, that he should have been the starter on that guy Matt, what’s-his-name. The Seahawks still have a great chance to win the division. 7-9 should do it.

Miami beating Oakland. The Dolphins rediscovered that when you run the ball, you win no matter who the quarterback is. The Raiders played like they were still in triptafen mode.

Baltimore on Tampa Bay. The young Buccaneers showed they can play with the big boys. But they still eat the last piece of chicken on the table. The Ravens were looking forward to the Steelers’ rematch at the start.

St. Louis over Denver. The Rams won their first road game and two wins to clinch the weakest division in NFL history. The Broncos lose again and blame it on not being able to cheat.

San Diego beating Indianapolis. The Chargers are on a roll, as they usually are this time of year. They are puncturing in all phases of the game. Even the special team problems seem to be fixed. The Chargers have now beaten the Colts five of six times. Come on, the Chargers have had the Colts’ number even when the Colts were good and healthy. This one wasn’t even close. It’s apparent that all of Colt’s injuries are finally kicking in and he’s struggling. It’s a sad sight to see Peyton Manning wince before he gets hit. The only thing that could be worse is that he takes a ghost catch like Jim Everett did when he played for the Los Angeles Rams. Yeah folks, the Rams and Raiders played in Los Angeles once.
