Panasonic Viera TXP42V20 1080P Full HD Plasma TV Review

Panasonic has introduced the TXP42V20B as its latest quality plasma display model. Right out of the box, the Panasonic TXP42V20B is visually stunning. Unlike many other Plasma TVs that have black or bronze bezels, the TXP-42V20 features a gray bezel that looks like brushed metal with its high-gloss polish. Although it lacks the style and beauty of some of its competitors, this TV is functional and utilitarian.

The TX-P42V20 has been loaded with different A/V inputs and outputs that you would expect from a TV of its caliber. Included are four HDMI slots, two USB connections, an Ethernet port, a D-sub PC port, and an SD slot. One feature that USB ports support is the ability to view movies and pictures and play music files from a USB hard drive. In addition to multimedia playback, the TX-P42V20B can record Freesat and Freeview HD programs if connected to a USB hard drive. This feature is quite convenient, although being able to watch recorded shows on the TXP42V20 alone is a bit annoying. In order to access streaming media, software updates and online content from Freesat and Freeview, the Ethernet port serves as Internet access.

By connecting to the Internet, the Panasonic TXP42V20B can access Viera Cast, an online service provided by Panasonic. This feature allows TV owners to stream movies and programming and access Skype from the service for a monthly fee.

Image quality is very good on the Panasonic TXP-42V20B. With a contrast ratio of 5,000,000:1, the TV displays better black levels than most TVs on the market. Ghost images are not noticeable as the TV has a 600Hz response time. By including its intelligent frame making smooth film processing, Panasonic has been able to achieve fast response times. Panasonic has equipped the TV with its proprietary NeoPDP technology. NeoPDP technology is a change in display design, allowing the screen to display clear and bright colors in high fidelity. Out of the box, the display options for video quality were exceptional, needing little adjustment to create a good image.

Perhaps the only negative aspect of owning a TXP42V20 is the sound quality. At high volumes when playing music alone, bass can sound muddy and overpowering, while treble levels can sound glassy and harsh. This little problem can be solved by connecting the TV to additional speakers or equipping it with a surround sound system.

For people who don’t want to invest in a 3D compatible TV, the Panasonic TXP42V20B is an excellent choice. Overall, the TV exudes quality. The TXP42V20B’s most notable qualities are its contrast ratio, near-perfect default video settings, Ethernet port, lack of ghosting, and built-in HD tuners. Although the built-in speakers are underpowered and can produce confusing sounds, the Panasonic TXP42V02B is worth buying if you’re looking for a 42-inch plasma screen.
