Romance in Negril, Jamaica

Jamaica is the largest English-speaking island in the Caribbean with a population of 2.5 million people. No business is as important to them as tourism. It is a very mountainous country with half the island at 1,000 feet or more. Blue Mountain Peak is the highest point at 7,420 feet. The first Jamaicans were the Taino Indians. The words hammock, hurricane, tobacco, barbecue, and canoe were derived from the Taino language.

Negril is at the western end of the island and approximately 1 hour from the airport. Calico Jack, the most notorious pirate in Jamaican history, was captured on the beach in Negril. There is a carefree atmosphere and a wide range of accommodation in Negril. By law, no building is taller than the tallest palm tree! This is where you will experience the best sunsets on the island.

I never thought I would recommend a resort that isn’t located on a beach, but Sunset at the Palms Resort and Spa has such an intimate feeling that I couldn’t pass it up. It is a great vacation spot for honeymooners or romantic vacations. These private treetop rooms have white drapes fluttering over French doors into these airy and elegant rooms. Elegant Asian-inspired furnishings include airy bedding, solid wood furniture, and natural fibers. Sleek, modern bathrooms feature gorgeous slate tiles, chrome fixtures, and glass-enclosed showers with four jets and two showerheads. The daybeds on the balconies make you feel one with nature. These Deluxe Treehouse rooms offer spacious rooms and feature king-size platform beds, air conditioning, satellite television, ceiling fans, natural fabrics and furnishings that add to the breezy island atmosphere. These rooms have the feel of Tahiti bungalows but instead of being over the water, they are high up in the trees.

This is an all-inclusive resort that includes all meals, including fresh fruit grown in the resort’s ten-acre tropical garden, drinks and cocktails anytime at any of the 3 bars, air-conditioned gym, tennis, free access to Internet, non-motorized water sports and a private beach. Although the beach is across the street, security guards help to cross safely.

A favorite hippie hangout in the late ’60s and early ’70s, Negril has become an excellent getaway for visitors looking for lots of relaxation and fun. No problem my!
