Acidophilus acne: the path to clear skin

Acne is triggered by increased sebum production in the sweat glands. Sebum along with dead skin cells tends to clog pores creating an ideal breeding ground for bacteria. These bacteria, along with the breakdown products of sebum, irritate and inflame the pores, leading to acne.

Other studies on acne show that it can also be caused by a digestive problem in which the skin becomes a toxin-removing organ due to poor digestion or chemical exposure.

There are numerous acne remedies available in the market that can be purchased and these include acidophilus acne supplements and medications. Acidophilus is a type of lactic acid-producing bacteria that is believed to have beneficial effects on digestion as well as general health. According to some studies, acidophilus was found to help treat acne.

It was also thought that acne was caused by some foods, as well as toxins that are produced due to poor digestion. Acidophilus is commonly found in dairy products like yogurt. For those people who are lactose intolerant, there are also acidophilus acne medications that can be purchased over the counter.

Acidophilus acne medications come in capsule and powder form. The capsule form of acidophilus acne medication is prescribed as one or two capsules a day, while acidophilus powder needs to be mixed with water and applied as a topical lotion on acne.

There are no known side effects caused by taking acidophilus medication, however regular intake of acidophilus is needed to control acne.
