God still speaks

Before we start with Hebrews, let me give you some background. We do not know exactly who the author is, much less where the people to whom the letter was addressed lived.

But we do know that these people were second-generation Christians who struggled a bit to hold onto their faith. Many of them were persecuted because of their faith. So the goal of the letter is to encourage young believers to continue believing in the midst of their suffering.

In the first verse the author tells us how God spoke in Old Testament times. He spoke through patriarchs like Moses, David, Isaiah, and other prophets. And in different ways: through angels, dreams, visions, and sometimes even through a bush.

But the fact remains: God spoke. And God still speaks today. Hear Chris’s story:

As you get older, you also become more forgetful. Bank account numbers and PIN numbers and policies disappear. So, I made myself a little black book with all the numbers and details. And then I lost it! I always kept it in the top drawer of my desk, but now it was gone!

I turned the whole house upside down. My office, the outside patio were searched, all the safes locked, but the little black book was gone. It disappeared between one breath and the next. Along with the letter opener my father-in-law gave me a long time ago.

Everyone looked for it. Mother, me, the children, even the grandchildren, but I was nowhere to be found. The only ones who didn’t join the search were my two furry babies who looked at us like we’ve gone crazy!

Two months later I went to bed on Saturday night (July 21) and something happened to me that night! Father spoke to me in a dream and showed me exactly where my things were!

And as a bonus, just because He’s so good to me, He also showed me where I could find computer data for the task I was working on and I didn’t know where to turn because I didn’t have enough data.

I got up early Sunday morning and found the book and the letter opener exactly where He had shown me, and needless to say, also all the necessary data on my computer.

Look, I’m a big man at 1.87m and 123kg, but I sat right there in my office and started crying and thanking him. Thank you that He is my God and Father. Thank you for everything you do and give me. Thank you for my health, but above all thank you because you spoke to me and made me feel so special. What an amazing feeling!

Our God lives, he is great and good! Amen.

God still speaks today. We may have to shut up and turn our ears to Him.

Reflection

Does God speak to you?

You hear it?

Are you quiet enough?

Pray

Father, I know that I am too busy and have very little time to spend in silence with you. I know you still speak today. Maybe I should clean the hearing aid on my side? Amen.
