How do you make Garland light up and look good?

First: If you have a regular garland with no lights, what you can do is attach the lights, here’s how: Place the garland at two points parallel to the ground so you can reach all of the string easily. Most garlands are 9 feet long.

2nd: Take a string of mini lights with a 4″ or 6″ spacing and 100 lights long. Starting at one end, connect the first mini bulb to the garland by wrapping the garland around the light (the garland should be made of flexible wire). We mostly use 6″ spacing, just because that’s what we tend to ask for, but 4″ spaced mini lights would really make it easier.

3rd: Take the last bulb of the string of light and join it to the other end of the garland in the same way. You should now have two points of the lights attached to the garland, one at the beginning and one at the end, with the rest of the lights hanging in the middle. After much trial and error, we’ve found the best way to make sure your lights are consistent every time. Make sure you don’t skip this step.

4th: Count the lights to the middle of the strand, in this case the 50th bulb. Now take that bulb and place it in the middle of the garland strand the same way you did the other two.

5th: Now you should have a “W” shape with the lights because we have 3 points attached to the garland, beginning, middle and end. Repeat this step one more time with the two different sections now so that you have 5 points attached to the garland with the lights dangling in the middle. (The goal of this is to make sure the lights are evenly distributed throughout the garland.)

Sixth: Once you have 5 points attached to the garland, you can do one of two things. One – you can take the remaining lights and simply wrap them around the garland making sure to keep them spaced out as evenly as possible. Once you’ve wrapped all the lights, be sure to attach a couple of them to the garland by wrapping the garland around the light to prevent it from coming undone. Two: The professional way, and the way we do it here, to wrap the garland is to continue wrapping each individual bulb around the garland. What this does is make sure that the bulb is at the very tip of the garland rather than in the middle of the garland.
