How to control moths

Moths cause millions of dollars in damage to personal property each year.

When I was a kid, a friend’s mom used to pay us a quarter for every moth we could kill because she hated what they did to her clothes and carpets every year. For such a small creature, they can do tremendous damage!

There is nothing more frustrating than pulling out clothes from last season and finding them unusable because moths have taken over. A perfectly good, expensive sweater with a small hole that cannot be repaired… That’s a sure sign of moth damage.

But bedding, rugs, and furniture are also at risk. Moths lay eggs on these food sources, and once the eggs hatch, it’s an endless buffet costing millions of dollars.

The ONLY way to deal with moths is to prevent them from establishing themselves in your home. They fly through doors as you walk in and out, so even the pickiest housekeeper can end up with these property destroyers. And the worst part is that she doesn’t necessarily know there’s a problem until after the damage!

So what can be done to control moths?

Choose an all-natural pest control product that is safe, eco-friendly, and effective. Make sure the website or label has clear instructions for controlling moths. By applying frequently, you will essentially create your own cedar closets and cedar chests that tell moths they ARE NOT WELCOME!

– Depending on the product you choose, it can be applied with a hand or pump sprayer. Inside your closet, apply your favorite all-natural pest control product to the walls, floor, shelves, and all over the carpet in all closets: bedroom closets, coat closets, broom closets, and even pantries.
– Initially spray once a week for two weeks and then once every two weeks.
– Twice a month, open all the drawers of your dressers, dressers, closets, etc. and spray paint the sides and bottoms of the drawers to create your own cedar dressers.
– Before use, spray inside sports bags, luggage and suitcases before traveling… anywhere clothing is stored or transported.
– If you have laundry storage boxes, take shredded paper or paper towels and spray them with your favorite all-natural pest control product. After these strips are dry to the touch, store them with the clothes in the container. This creates a hostile environment and the moths will not enter the storage boxes and do damage.
– Depending on how well sealed the storage containers are, you may want to repeat the soaked paper throughout the year.

Be proactive against moths to minimize damage. Let them know that moths ARE NOT WELCOME!
