How to Make Play Dough – Play Dough Recipe and Activities

To be honest, I’ve never had much success making my own playdough. In the few tries I did, the dough was crumbly and drying out too quickly, so I gave up and went shopping for some.

I’m a big fan of the Crayola brand of playdough, however once I bought another brand, I’m still trying to get that playdough out of my house! It was so sticky that it ended up, in its many bright colors, all over my house!

Then one day I walked into my son’s daycare and the kids were playing with playdough. He felt and smelled great, so I asked the teacher what brand it was so I could buy some. She surprised me by saying that she had made it. So I decided it was time to try again!

The best advice I can give on how to make playdough is to cook your playdough. This ties it together and makes it just as good, if not better, than the commercial playdough you can buy.

So I got to work and made some playdough using the following recipe and it was fantastic. So no more store-bought playdough for us!

You’ll become the envy of your playgroup when you master the easy skill of making your own playdough.

I think homemade play dough is a beautiful birthday or Christmas gift, especially if you print out the play dough recipe and attach it to the play dough tub to teach others how to make play dough!
