How to sell more books

If you want to make money writing books, you have to make sure that your book sales continue for years to come.

However, the question is how do you do it? How do you ensure that you can continue to sell copies of your books for years to come?

The answer is simple.

You need to write more books than your readers want to read.

And it doesn’t matter if you are writing fiction or nonfiction. The advice I’m going to give you works for both of you.

What you need to do is not just write a book, but write a series of books. That way, once someone has read your book, they can come back for more.

The first thing to do is plot your series. So every book you write should be a complete book unto itself – it needs a satisfying ending or conclusion – and it should keep your readers wanting more.

If you write fiction, then it is easy to write a continuous saga divided into a series of books, as the Harry Potter novels did. Each was a book unto itself, but at the same time, the story of the three main characters went on and on as different problems arose for them in each consecutive book.

If you write nonfiction, then you need to write a series of books based on the same topic. For example, if you want to write about dogs, you could write a great generic book or break it down into more detailed books on canine health, dog training, breeding, puppy care, grooming, displaying, etc.

That way, as your reader’s dog grows from puppy to adult, they can continue to buy books on caring for him. And if it is one of your books that you started with, and you have advertised your other books on the back of each one, then it is very likely that they are staying with the same author.

And the same goes for fiction. Once your readers know and like your main characters, they will want to read more about them. Or you could write about different characters but in the same place, like a haunted house trying to kill the people who stay there, or a series of horror books about zombies, or a series of western novels or romance books.

Once you start thinking about it and looking for ideas, you will be surprised what comes to mind.

But the important thing is to keep writing, publishing and marketing every book you write.
