When I looked in the rearview mirror, I could see the huge red fire truck bearing down on me… lights flashing aggressively.

Hurriedly, I got off the road just in time.

But then something strange caught my eye… the sirens weren’t blaring. There was no emergency. What’s going on?

So I looked closely. And what did I see?

A beautiful young woman with hair like burnished gold…maybe 19, 21 years old, dressed in a sparkling white wedding dress…along

with a smiling and elegantly dressed young man. Holding hands and standing in the back of the open-air truck they were in

waving and smiling to the crowd.

Oh! This young newlywed couple just rented a fire truck for a night drive around town!

I joined the crowd and waved back. The spectacle lit up the whole place and brought smiles of joy to everyone’s faces.

At that moment I realized how precious and joyful marriage was designed.

This was at 6:15 pm on a Thursday night.

Another time, another place

Different set of people.

At 7am Sunday morning in church, I was snapped back to cold, hard reality…like someone poured a bucket of ice water.

It happened when I innocently asked a brother how his family was…

“He left… he abandoned me with the children”, was the sad reply.

“Y…you m…mean…” I stuttered trying to contain my surprise. Not these. They always seemed so happy… always smiling.

“He just said he felt like he was in prison or something. He packed up our 2 kids and went to Arizona,” she said with a tired sigh.

Then a thought hit me.

“I’m so sorry to hear that”. I started.

“Okay, thanks,” he said.

“Excuse me for asking this…is there a pattern like this in your family…or hers?”

“Not mine,” he said softly but firmly, “no one in your family stays married for long.”

Hmm.

Before that week was over, I had heard of 5 more similar cases.

What could be going wrong?

shocking revelations

In our ministry years ago, we did some deep spiritual research on the breakdown of marriages and some shocking revelations emerged.

Some of them weren’t pretty.

In fact, the enemy starts with one of the oldest and most successful strategies in the book: the confusion of tongues.

For students of the Bible, this feared weapon was first used by

God himself against the builders of the tower of babel in Genesis 11.

It is such an effective weapon that it can create suspicion, misunderstanding and general confusion in a marriage…

after a while.

It begins when husband and wife begin to disagree on just about everything…no one listens to the other and before long communication breaks down…then the enemy unleashes other dangerous weapons.

So we bow down to pray the psalmist’s prayer: “O Lord, divide the tongues of all those who target my marriage for destruction.” – see Psalm 55:9.

In these marriages, we also discovered a pattern of:

* break or divorce either in the family of the husband or the side of the wife or both.

* marital problems transferred from one generation to another…using vehicles such as unbroken curses and unknown pacts.

* Hidden spiritual marriages in place.

* invisible marks of hate placed on the husband or wife. This makes one repulsive to the other and vice versa, after only a few years of marriage.

* Warning signs ignored or simply not understood. Sometimes these warnings come through dreams.

To give you an example, we once found a man who was deeply in love with his wife, for 6 months.

Then suddenly he couldn’t bear to see her. No one could think of anything wrong that she had done.

Finally, he left her.

She went for counseling… no solution.

Her friends led her to all sorts of “prophets.” She went to see 5 different therapists, 2 psychics and even a hypnotist.

Nothing worked.

She went into prayer asking God for another husband.

No response.

As she said, she had desperately prayed to God to send her someone special with whom she could glorify herself and give him praise… no answer.

In fact, all he seemed to be getting turned out to be nothing more than “wolves in sheep’s clothing.”

She gave up…not knowing how to navigate the tricky minefield of finding a sincere, God-fearing man to share her love with.

Then the Lord had mercy on her.

One day, a friend at work invited her to a Friday night prayer meeting.

It was hot and wild… kind of praying without limits.

During prayers, a sister noticed an invisible mark on her forehead…a small star-shaped symbol that was not visible

He stopped the prayers and made this unique prayer point just for her:

“Blood of Jesus, cleanse all hate writing and rejection from my life in Jesus name.”

They prayed it 3 times, thanked the LORD for the answer and went directly to the next prayer point.

Result?

That same weekend the husband called for the first time since the breakup.

12 more sessions of one-on-one prayers (with fasting) followed…and my husband came home.
