Did you know that puppy adoptions are probably the best way to “recycle” unwanted puppies? Sure, you could pay dearly for a purebred puppy from a breeder. But if you just want a family pet, why not consider giving a homeless pup a fresh start in life?

If puppies are so adorable, why are there so many unwanted ones in animal shelters and dog rescue centers? There are many reasons, actually:

*Puppy mills are sometimes forced to close their operations (thankfully)

* Someone in the family turned out to be allergic to the new puppy

* The family got fed up with the typical behavior of a young pup and dropped him off at the local shelter.

* All family members are busier than they thought and have no time left to take care of a puppy.

* An unplanned situation forces the family to move from their house to an apartment where dogs are not allowed

* You agreed to help a friend with puppy adoptions when you didn’t get your dog spayed fast enough, but you’re left with some unwanted puppies

* A pregnant dog is found wandering the streets, leaving a shelter or dog rescue tasked with finding homes for the mother and puppies.

Many animal shelters are overcrowded, underfunded, and on a tight schedule as to how long animals can be kept there. Those adorable pups need homes now! Most responsible shelters, and almost all dog rescue centers, will try to match their dogs with potential owners with the goal of making this new home permanent.
