Rotating your futon mattress

A futon and a futon mattress is something that many people have in their homes. Some use futons as a bed and sofa. Some futons are the main furniture in people’s homes, especially those with smaller houses or apartments that use their futons all the time. One key thing that people forget is that they have to rotate their futon mattress. Turning the futon mattress will keep it cool and allow you to keep it longer.

Turning the futon mattress gives the interior material a chance to settle down. As you sit or sleep in certain areas, just like with a pillow, the material will begin to thin. It will be pushed to other parts of the futon so that the futon is not as smooth and becomes a bit bulky. Turning it frequently will allow it to continue leveling as pressure is put on other areas of the futon.

Depending on the type of futon mattress you have, you will need to rotate the mattress more often. Cotton futons require the most rotation. It is recommended that you rotate your cotton futon mattress once a month or a little more if you use it fairly frequently. The inner spring facts do not need to be rotated as much. Like a bed, they can be rotated every 6 months. Finally, mid-size futons made from polyester and foam blends should be rotated every 3 months or so.

When rotating the mattress, rotate the mattress in a constant direction. Determine where you use it the most. If you tend to sit more, turn the mattress 180 degrees. If you tend to sleep on it, try turning it over when you turn it, and then turning it 180 degrees every other time you turn it. Keep track of your system or use the same system during rotation.

It is important to use a regular schedule and system when rotating your favorite cotton-filled futon mattress. For some, they must alternate between turning it 180 degrees and flipping it. For others, they can rotate it twice before flipping it. Either way, keep it constant to make sure you level the mattress.

If you tend to sleep on the futon, try sleeping on the right or left side of the mattress. This will make it easier to level when you turn it. Every time you turn the mattress, you will sleep on a cool side. It will gradually level out again until you need to turn it over.

A good futon mattress will stay firm for a long time. Some are known to last more than 10 years or more. Maintaining a rotation period will help keep your futon mattresses soft and comfortable for your continued enjoyment.
