The many uses of noise canceling headphones

Do you think that all noise canceling headphones are the same? Do you think there is basically only one use for headphones? Incorrect! There are many, many uses for headphones, and more specifically noise canceling headphones. Once you start wearing and using them, you’ll find that you won’t want to leave home without them. Especially the small and compact earphone style.

Basically, there are two different types to choose from… active and passive.

Active uses electronic circuitry to detect incoming sounds and reduce the amount you hear. These are the type that are over the ears. One of their not so good is that they require batteries to work. Passives don’t use electricity or batteries and are the kind that go into the ear canals to block out external sounds….headphones, and to a lesser degree the kind that comes with the Ipod…headphones.

1. Use them while you travel. Listen to music at a low volume and the headphone circuitry will eliminate any background noise. So, if you need a bit of peace of mind or a good night’s sleep, this is the ideal way to do it. They’re ideal for the business traveler who wants a bit of quiet on a noisy plane (piercing voice?) or wants a great night’s sleep in a hotel (why does it always seem to put YOU next to the party room? ).

2. Use it when you have to listen to trainings and seminars at work when you want to have the world to yourself, or the ringing of the phones or the sound of the fax machine.

3. Use it when you want to listen to music or watch movies and don’t want to subject others to your entertainment while at the same time you don’t want to have to listen to other sounds, which would diminish your entertainment potential.

4. Use it when you want to play video games or computer games and want to truly become a part of the experience. A quality set of noise canceling headphones will do just that. Many sporting events are enhanced when sound becomes an integral part of the game. This happens when you forget you’re in a busy college dorm room or noisy apartment building and really feel like you’re in the race car or the dungeon or the football game (or wherever else your game is going on). .

5. They are also great if you are a passenger in a car on a long trip and have trouble sleeping in the car. The headphones will cancel road noise, map creaking, car radio sound, etc. and you can sleep peacefully.

6. Use it when your child is learning to play an instrument. If they’re learning to play an acoustic instrument, like guitar, bass, or keyboards, you can give them these headphones so they don’t hear other noises (and no one else can hear them!). You will have a happy son or daughter with a good musical ear and you will also have peace and quiet in your home!

7. So, check out the major manufacturers: Shure, Etymotic Research, Ultimate Ears, Sennheiser, Bose, and others. Remember, to make a great gift for everyone and especially to make a great gift for the person who has everything, these are ideal. If it’s hard to shop for someone on your list this year, give them a pair of noise canceling headphones. And if they listen to music you don’t like, you might as well consider it a treat for yourself!
