But what has caused players around the world to explode with jubilation and excitement was the announcement of a new hero class, Death Knights, which can be played once you have a level 55 character. These are different. from WoW’s first Death Knight concept, in that they are not Lich lordsa. Known as the Death Knights of the Scourge, they are also different from the Death Knights of the Old Horde in that they are not orcish or warlock spirits bound to the bodies of dead Stormwind Knights. The first of the Scourge Death Knights was Prince Arthas. In seeking him to rid the world of the Scourge, Prince Arthas also lost his humanity. His weakened faith in the Light led to his being easily tricked by the Lich King. In the events of the Frozen Throne, Prince Arthas became one with the Lich King. He then lured other paladins to Northrend and, on his journeys, they too became bitter and cynical. With the Lich King’s promise of power and immortality, these renegade paladins became the new Death Knights.

The main difference between Scourge Death Knights and previous Death Knights is that they mostly have no free will and are subject to the Lich King’s command. However, in the new Wrath of the Lich King expansion, players can choose to split from the Lich King and ally with the factions they belonged to. This is because the will of the player’s Death Knight will be returned to them through a quest that will involve a magnificent battle against the legendary hero and paladin, Tirion Fording. With the help of Tirion, the cleansing power of the Ashbringer blade, and the strength and energy of the Argent Dawn, the will of the Death Knights will be restored to them, giving them the ability to choose again.
